Finding the best Pilates course
Finding the best Pilates course
As a health practitioner, we want the best for our clients. We want to have the best tools of the trade and offer the best services. This is why we should never compromise with our own training. This is especially true for courses that we will be building a foundation of clientele with, and building our reputation with, such as Pilates courses.
So how can we figure out which courses are high quality, and worth devoting our precious time and CPD funds towards? It can be a minefield trawling through Google, trying to figure out which courses look the ‘best’. How can you tell? What things should you look for? What questions should you ask?
Get online.
Start off by checking out the providers’ website. This is an easy one to start with. Do they put care and effort in to presenting their business and products to the world? If they take care in this area, then they will likely put the same care and effort in to delivering high quality courses. Do they give good descriptions of their services? Are they linked to an internationally recognised provider, so that your qualifications will hold up if you want to work overseas?
Get on the phone.
If the website does not give you with enough information, then go deeper. Call the provider and chat to the staff. Find out more information in person. Everyone knows that feeling when you meet someone or talk to someone in person; you get a ‘vibe’ off them. Often you will walk away thinking “I got a really good feeling from them” (and sometimes it will be the opposite. This is all valuable information to base your decisions on!).
Use your network.
Find people in your profession who have done courses that you are looking at. Talk to your colleagues, your old classmates, and other contacts. Ask them where they did their training. Ask them what their experience was like. Ask them if they would recommend that provider. Word of mouth has been, and probably always will be, such a powerful and very often reliable source. If you trust that person, then you are probably going to trust their recommendations and judgements.
Try it!
If you are looking at investing in a high value product, such as a full certification Pilates course, you may be able to purchase one module of the course first to see if you like what that provider is offering. This will give you a great feel for the company, the courses they provide, and the knowledge base you will gain. It will give you the confidence of being able to invest more in their courses, knowing you are receiving quality training.
