Unite Health Presenter Of The Month - Kathryn Anderson
Unite Health Presenter of the month is the talented Kathryn Anderson, APPI Master trainer in Australia. Kathryn first began teaching for the APPI in London in 2006 and since then she has been a fundamental part of the team presenting across the UK and Australia. Unite Health Presenter Of The Month In 2009 Kathryn opened her own Physiotherapy & Pilates clinic, Viva Physiotherapy, which has seen huge success. Viva Physio offers over 30 Pilates classes a week, including matwork and equipment Pilates as well as services in physiotherapy, sports massage, dry needling and tailored pregnancy physiotherapy services. As well as presenting APPI Pilates courses and managing Viva Physio, Kathryn and her husbund Justin are kept busy with their two beautiful young daughters Vivienne and Sophie.

What is your favourite APPI Pilates course to deliver and why?

Definitely Matwork 1. We call it “The Foundation” and I really do love that it gives all the tools needed (both theoretical and practical) to perform any future Pilates exercise well.

What is your favourite area of Physiotherapy and why?

I love treating back and neck pain as I think as Physiotherapists and Pilates Instructors we have such a great opportunity to make such a big difference to our patients’ quality of life. In addition to that running injuries are always a favourite of mine and since having my two children, assisting women in returning back to running (or any sport!) after pregnancy has become a passion.

Do you have any plans to open another Physiotherapy & Pilates clinic?

Not at the moment – my motivation for opening Viva was more clinical rather than business-based an so at the moment I just love taking the time to tinker with our processes and training to provide the best quality treatment possible.

What is the one thing you always recommend to clients, but forget to do yourself?

To stretch on the foam roller every day! (Actually I might go and do that now).

What is your favourite Pilates exercise and why?

Leg Pull in Prone – both to teach and to do myself. The stability work in the scapula and core in addition to the opportunity to work on the finer points of posture in the spine make it both fun to do and clinically beneficial. You can visit Kathryn and her team at Viva Physiotherapy on Flinders Lane in the CBD.
