Here’s why our intensive Pilates course format is in such high demand
Our intensive delivery format of our APPI Pilates Instructor Certification course continues to surge in popularity, with many of our students opting to complete the modules and practical lessons component of their certification across three immersive weeks.
Held from 9-5 on weekdays over those three weeks, each day is jam-packed with hands-on skills sessions, comprehensive and evidence-based modules, and a whole lot of Pilates enthusiasm! Whether you’re looking to fast-track your new career in Pilates, meet like-minded Pilates enthusiasts through your studies, or fully immerse yourself in the world of Pilates over a few concentrated weeks, there are endless reasons why this delivery format is becoming one of our most in-demand options of all.
We spoke to one of our very own graduates, Olivia Bykowska, who recently completed her intensive APPI Pilates Instructor Certification with Unite Health, to find out what she thought of the experience and whether she’d recommend this format to other aspiring Pilates instructors and enthusiasts.
She shared her valuable insights and words of advice below.
Olivia initially decided to complete her Pilates education with Unite Health over other course providers after she heard such positive feedback from friends and online.
“It was recommended by a friend, and I had heard such positive things about the course through the internet and social media. I appreciated that the course was created and taught by physiotherapists, as this aligned with my values but also made me confident in what I was being taught,” Olivia said.
While many other Pilates courses are developed by studios who primarily focus on offering Pilates classes to customers, later adding an educational component to increase their revenue, Unite Health is first and foremost an education provider. This means the quality of teaching and content at Unite Health is second to none. It’s the gold standard in the industry, and the development of each course module by experienced physiotherapists based on years of clinical experience and scientific research means many of our students choose our courses so they can be certain they’re getting the most up-to-date, comprehensive, effective training available in the industry. This helps them start their careers in the booming Pilates industry a step ahead of their competition.
Olivia said the immersive nature of the intensive delivery option was the initial reason she decided to complete her course in this format, as well as the fact it allowed her to complete her qualification and begin her work in the Pilates industry faster.
“I was fortunate to have a few weeks off from my university course and loved the idea of having a change in lifestyle for a few weeks to do the 3-week intensive. I also admired learning alongside a group of people and being with them every day as we went through the course together, as well as having my qualifications ASAP!” she said.
She went into the course with the aim of emerging with the confidence, skills and knowledge required to teach Pilates. She wanted a course which encompassed the physical skills, repertoire and techniques required to be an exceptional instructor, but also left her feeling confident in her ability to support her future clients and create a successful career for herself in the industry.
“I had hoped that the Unite Health team would be welcoming and helpful in the areas I needed. My expectations were definitely exceeded with the environment of the Unite Health team. Every morning we were greeted with the biggest smiles from the admin team, the teachers were so supportive and passionate about their teaching and individualised each experience to ensure we were getting the most out of the course. The atmosphere was unmatched and I definitely enjoyed my three weeks!” Olivia reflected.
When asked if she’d recommend the intensive delivery format to others wanting to pursue a career in Pilates, Olivia’s answer was “absolutely!”
“I feel the opportunity to progress and develop from your learnings the previous day really excelled my learning outcomes through repetition. The course was developed really well to ensure it wasn't a content overload, but rather incorporated morning movement sessions, repertoire practice and career learning sessions,” she elaborated.
The social aspect of the intensive course was another huge positive Olivia highlighted, with her sentiment shared by many of our other past and present students too.
“Being surrounded by the same group of people for the three weeks made the experience so much more enjoyable and special. We were able to share experiences and get to know the other new Pilates instructors in the industry!” Olivia said.
Olivia also emphasised that, despite the intensive course taking less time to complete, it still gave her the same (“if not more!”) quality of education and the hands-on, practical experience and learning she’d expect from a longer course format.
“Our teachers emphasised doing well through repetition, and having the opportunity and equipment to do so every day ensured this. The anatomy and repertoire was covered thoroughly, and being able to ask questions the following day was extremely beneficial for my learning. The course plan is also set out really well so it’s not too overwhelming, but rather a progressive development of all your skills throughout,” Olivia explained.
One of her favourite aspects of the course was becoming part of an enriching environment and a supportive team.
“The course plan and teachers made me feel so confident in my repertoire and the relevant anatomy [knowledge] to understand the deeper aspects of Pilates, but I also enjoyed meeting such an awesome group of women within my group. I loved how supported I was, but also [enjoyed] being challenged where necessary,” she said.
Olivia met an “awesome group of women” through her course that she’s still in touch with today.
“It’s so nice to have other new Pilates instructors to reach out to that went through the same experience as you,” she added.
Looking to her future, Olivia believes that being a part of the Unite Health community and becoming an APPI-certified instructor has helped set her up for a successful career in Pilates.
“I’ve found many studios are interested in Unite Health-trained Pilates instructors specifically. The community that’s created within social media too has opened the door to many potential job opportunities, as well as opportunities to reach out to fellow Unite Health instructors for questions, opinions and development. I’m currently working in a studio that aligns strongly with everything I learnt at Unite Health, and I’m super grateful for this!” Olivia shared.
