Pilates for Gym Goers
I have always been a regular gym goer however Pilates was never something that I had considered adding into my usual exercise routine. After reading about it in a local newspaper and its benefits for posture and core strength I thought I would give it a shot. After my first Pilates group reformer class I could feel muscles I never knew I had, the burn was also like no other, such a deep isolated contraction to specific muscle groups. I’ve always liked the burn when attending a pump class but this was a completely new feeling. Since then I have been taking part in classes 2-3 times a week and progressing from beginner to the more advanced exercises. My core strength has improved enabling me to complete other exercises more efficiently I’ve also noticed a significant difference in my balance and flexibility. I have been a beauty therapist for 7 years and over that time my posture has become increasingly poor, being hunched over clients for the majority of my day. Pilates has definitely helped my posture and made me more aware of it throughout the day. There are so many different variations with Pilates exercises depending on your strength and level of experience. I have very weak wrists due to my job so some exercises I found uncomfortable to begin with, after modifying them for some time I have gradually built up strength and am able to complete the movements properly. In addition to my usual matwork pilates I have recently tried the ‘Healthy HIT’ DVD. An amazing addition to add onto my matwork class when I want that extra cardio! It’ only a half hour long so easily fits in before or after work and includes a fitness test so you can track your progress every few weeks. After seeing the improvements in my posture and strength I’ve managed to get all of my colleagues to try Pilates too! Do you enjoy reading our blog?
