Side Splits on the Reformer with Variations - APPI Equipment Level 1
In this video we demonstrate side splits on the reformer with variations which is taught on APPI’s Equipment 1 Pilates course for lumbopelvic stability.
This series is useful not only for activation of the lateral sling in standing, but also for the high degree of feedback it provides for standing posture. It is a commonly chosen exercise for lumbopelvic pain as it is safe but can also be challenging. The kneeling and weights versions provide the practitioner with good opportunities to challenge their clients beyond the basic exercise. The combination of many muscular slings working also helps to improve function and overall strength.
Side splits on the reformer is just one of the many exercises taught on APPI Pilates Equipment Level 1 Course.
APPI Equipment Level 1 - Lumbo Pelvic Stabilisation
APPI’s Equipment Level 1 introduces participants to Clinical Pilates teaching on the large equipment with a focus on lumbopelvic stability. It is also the entry point for those wishing to complete the APPI Clinical Pilates Equipment Certification Series and is a sound introduction to the large Pilates equipment, covering a range of beginner movements.
Beginner level repertoire is taught on the reformer, cadillac, split pedal chair and barrels addressing the lumbopelvic region and lower limb. On this course you will start to understand the ways movements can be adapted to different equipment, and why you would choose one over the other. Experience the movements for yourself and explore how equipment Pilates can be either a regression or progression from matwork exercises.
