Why employers prefer to hire Unite Health graduates

We’re always telling you how well-respected and recognised our APPI Certifications are, not just in Australia, but worldwide too. The APPI accreditation signals you’ve completed the highest standard of Pilates education available, created by expert physiotherapists and based on years of clinical experience and extensive scientific research. It’s evidence-based, comprehensive and effective, and employers and studios recognise this - it’s one of the many reasons studios prefer to hire APPI graduates whenever possible.

As the sole provider of APPI courses Australia-wide, Unite Health equips our graduates with the skills, experience and confidence you need to ensure your future success, whether you’re looking to enter the Pilates industry or you’re working as an allied health professional. But don’t just take our word for it…

We spoke to the two Heads of Academy and Master Trainers at STRONG Pilates, Caitlin Bryan and Abbey Hansson, to understand what they look for when hiring Pilates instructors, and how an APPI Certification from Unite Health can help set you apart when you’re carving out your dream career.

Caitlin and Abbey said they believe APPI-certified Pilates instructors have a greater depth of knowledge and understanding from their Pilates education, allowing them to better cater to their clients’ needs and setting them apart from other instructors and job applicants.

“We believe that APPI certified instructors possess extensive knowledge of the body's anatomy and physiology, as well as movement and technique cues in exercises,” they said.

The international recognition of Unite Health’s APPI Certifications has enabled STRONG Pilates to hire instructors who have helped to expand the franchise across the globe with huge success. This is one of the reasons STRONG Pilates looks to hire APPI-qualified instructors wherever possible.

Unite Health boasts more than two decades of experience as Pilates educators, with their training being internationally acknowledged in 21 countries, and available in 15 different languages. STRONG Pilates has been introduced in Canada, the UK, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia, and will soon be available in Japan, the USA, Dubai, Malaysia, and other countries. The participation of APPI-qualified instructors in our academy ensures that their credentials are globally recognised,” Caitlin and Abbey explained.

They’ve had very positive experiences hiring Unite Health graduates, largely owing to the in-depth and extensive education these instructors have as their foundations.

“We’ve had many APPI-certified instructors come through our STRONG academies. One in particular that comes to mind is Chou Lim, who completed her APPI Pilates Instructor Certification through Unite Health in 2020. Chou became a STRONG Instructor, progressing to a Master Trainer in 2021, facilitating STRONG academies across the globe and is now the proud studio owner of STRONG Islington in the UK."

“Chou’s past experience in the industry and her knowledgeable background and training stood out to us as she picked up the STRONG method quickly, and adapted to our way of teaching whilst incorporating her extensive knowledge in anatomy, movement and technique”  they shared.

When looking to hire new instructors for STRONG Pilates, Caitlin and Abbey emphasised the importance of a strong, evidence-based skill set and communication skills.

“We’re looking for excellent verbal skills, confidence that translates to a STRONG stage presence, knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body, interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships with clients and [provide] exceptional customer service. We also look for excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask, as well as someone who enjoys a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.”

When it comes to giving advice to anyone interested in pursuing a career in Pilates, both Abbey and Caitlin emphasised the importance of comparing the Pilates education providers available, and choosing the option which best fits your goals and opens up as many opportunities as possible.

They suggested, “Participate in as many classes as possible outside of your course at all different types of studios to fully immerse yourself in the Pilates industry, which will assist with ensuring you can adapt to different environments and you become a versatile instructor. Align yourself with brands and studios that reflect your core values and your teaching style to ensure you’ll feel at home wherever you start your career. And find a job you love!”

They mentioned that the flexible delivery options for completing Unite Health’s APPI Certifications make it possible for anyone to pursue a career in Pilates, regardless of your existing schedule and commitments.

“The flexibility to complete the course in various ways, whether online, in person, or a hybrid mix, is highly appealing.”

APPI Certifications are recognised and held in high esteem in the Pilates industry in Australia and worldwide for good reason: they equip you with a more comprehensive, well-rounded set of skills and knowledge, allowing you to pursue a career in Pilates with confidence. An APPI accreditation opens up more opportunities and helps differentiate you from others in the competitive Pilates and health industries, helping ensure your future career success.
