The APPI Ante / Post Natal Matwork Pilates - 100% Online self-paced course will cover the essential concepts of how to modify Pilates for it to be taught safely during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
Physiological and musculoskeletal changes during pregnancy will be covered throughout the lectures as well as recommendations and guidelines for general exercise during pregnancy and post-birth. Common musculoskeletal conditions experienced by women in this special population will be touched upon with reference to how Pilates exercises can be adapted to these situations.
Appropriate matwork Pilates exercises, including movements incorporating small Pilates equipment, will be covered.
Duration: 2 full days, or approximately 14 - 16 hours to complete
Access: You will have 12 months access to the content from the date of purchase.
CPD hours: You will receive a certificate of attendance of the course stating 16 hours CPD which can be used towards your annual requirements.
Eligibility: This course is ideal for Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Pilates Instructors, and other clinicians who would like to have more confidence to prescribe Pilates exercises for pregnant and postnatal women as well as how to incorporate Pilates into the management of common obstetric musculoskeletal conditions.
Meet your APPI Course Educator Jess Jenkins.
Jess is a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor, also known on social media as “The Mama Physio”.
Jess is a highly experienced clinician, credentialled as an advanced practice physiotherapist, with extensive experience in both the public and private settings throughout Australia and the UK since graduating in 2012. Her areas of expertise include pre and postnatal care, and clinical Pilates.
Jess has over 15 years of experience both participating and teaching Pilates; from clinical rehabilitation in a one-to-one setting, duets, clinical rehabilitation classes, and fitness classes in gyms and physiotherapy studios. Her APPI Pilates training has provided a solid foundation for rehabilitation of physiotherapy clients and progression to functional activities and full wellness. Jess also runs an online Pre and Postnatal Pilates studio named “MOVE with The Mama Physio”.
Outside of work Jess enjoys spending time with her daughter and husband. You will likely bump into her with a coffee in hand whilst testing out her local pilates studios.
This pre-recorded, self-paced online course is designed for participants who wish to learn more about the application of Pilates to the ante and postnatal period.
Lectures on the physiological, biomechanical and postural changes that occur during the childbearing year will be related to the adaptation and application of modified Pilates exercises.
Specific obstetric conditions and relevant management with the APPI Pilates repertoire will be presented. Guidelines for exercise in pregnancy will be discussed and appropriate exercise including the use of resistance bands and the swiss ball will be taught in the practical sessions.
APPI Matwork Level 1 or the attendance at a 2-day Matwork Pilates course is the pre-requisite for this course.
