What is APPI and why do you need an APPI Certification?

There are a bunch of different Pilates educators and courses available out there for you to choose from. But they are not all created equal. There are very real, very good reasons why we’re Australia’s number one Pilates education provider, with our APPI-certified courses being world-renowned and recognised by studios across the country, and the world. We often hear from studios how they prefer to hire APPI-trained instructors, and many even require their teachers to complete their training with Unite Health, owing to the high-quality nature of the certification.

But what exactly is APPI? What does it mean to be APPI-certified, and why should you complete an APPI certification with Unite Health if you want to succeed in your future career as a Pilates instructor? We’ve got all the answers right here for you!

What is APPI?

APPI stands for the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute. The APPI method is all about teaching you five stages of Pilates movements, giving you varied levels and modifications for each exercise you program into your classes so you can seamlessly cater to any client’s needs and abilities. It recognises the importance of a personalised approach to teaching Pilates, and the need to make each client feel supported, welcomed and cared for.

Instead of equipping you with a set of exercises for you to blindly follow without explanation, the APPI method teaches you why certain exercises are relevant and effective for particular clients, goals and levels of ability.

The APPI method also emphasises the importance of the mind-body connection in optimising the results and the experience of Pilates. With more than 100 foundational Pilates movements for you to integrate into your teaching and practice, you’ll learn to support your clients as they progress their fitness, tone and sculpt their body, and achieve the results they’re working towards.

Most importantly, the APPI method is built upon years of clinical experience and extensive research, and has been formulated by expert physiotherapists with a sound understanding of the human body and anatomy. This evidence-based approach helps you provide better support to your clients, and ensures you’re well equipped to help them improve their strength, decrease the risk of injury, and achieve superior results more efficiently.

We’re Education, First.

While most other courses are provided by existing Pilates studios, initially built on teaching Pilates classes to clients, who have since expanded into Pilates education as a business and profit opportunity, Unite Health is solely focused on Pilates education. Education is the bread and butter of our business, and we strive to continuously bring you the best quality teaching and course content available, led by top experts within the industry for maximum impact.

Our APPI Certifications recognise the importance of our course educators, and the role they play in supporting you to begin a career in Pilates with the greatest chance of success. Our teachers are educators first and foremost, with extensive experience in the industry and in teaching and supporting Pilates instructors as they begin to carve out their own careers.
